FAQs

What can I expect at my first massage appointment?

At your first massage appointment, I will meet you at the studio - just knock on the door and I will let you in. We will discuss how you are feeling that day, your experience with massage and what you want to get from this massage.

Together we will plan what your massage will look like & I will talk you through the process - from how our session will look to what clothes to remove and how to lay on the table. There will also be time for me to answer any specific questions.

After your massage we will have time to debrief and reflect on what you like/didn’t like. The whole process is centred around your comfort, so if there is anything you would prefer for your next appointment you can let me know.

How can I prepare for a massage?

All you need to do is turn up! There is no need to shave or feel self-conscious about your body - a shower that morning is enough. I would advise against a heavy meal before massage, and I cannot treat you if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

If it is possible for you to plan a relaxing day around your massage, this may be beneficial to you - however, coming in after a busy day at work is also a perfect way to unwind. I will meet you wherever you are at and together we will create a calm and nurturing environment for you to soothe your nervous system and tend to your body and mind.

What should I do after?

After a massage, you may feel a little more tired than usual. Where possible, try to avoid stressful situations and plan to treat yourself with a little extra care. Eat regularly and lightly, drink plenty of water allow yourself to rest in order to feel the full benefits of this soothing practice.

What should I wear?

As the form of massage I provide uses oil on skin, when you are on the massage table you will be in your underwear, covered by linens. If I am massaging your back and you wear a bra or binder, it is easiest for you to remove it for the massage, or I where possible I can unhook it while you are on the table. We can discuss your comfort levels prior to the massage and if you have any concerns, please let me know.

What should I do if I have specific concerns, for example injury, chronic conditions or trauma?

Please let me know if you have any specific concerns - you are welcome to contact me prior to booking to discuss them, or at any point before your massage. I will always do my best to provide you with a space where you feel safe, heard and nurtured.

Symptoms of many chronic conditions can be alleviated through massage, however with some conditions massage can cause a temporary flare up. I treat clients with a range of conditions including migraines, ME & chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, PMDD, endometriosis and PCOS, as well as anxiety, PTSD and depression. The massage will always be tailored to your specific needs and I will always work collaboratively with you for your comfort.

There may be some instances where I cannot massage you, or where I avoid a specific body part. I am always open to talk and work out what is best for you - you can get in touch via my contact page if you want to discuss a specific concern prior to booking.
